T-Street Beach History
When planning the city, founder Ole Hanson’s vision for his Spanish Village included a splendorous resort hotel. The planned 10-acre was resort to overlook T-Street with guests arriving via Esplanade which is why the streets are so wide. Unfortunately, the stock market crash of 1929 ended those plans. Sometime in the 1930s, plans were redrawn making the site a residential area.
Another potential development contemplated by Ole Hanson was a breakwater that extends from the end of the San Clemente Pier south to Seal Rock. The idea was to provide a harbor – shelter and anchorage for small boats. That means T-Street would have fallen to the same fate as Killer Dana, no wanes and no surfing. While the San Clemente Pier was constructed, the breakwater was another plan that didn’t come to pass.
